Freight demand has been on the rise, pushing heavy truck orders to their highest monthly number since May of 2006.
According to Americas Commercial Transportation Research Co. LLC (ACT Research), a preliminary reading of heavy-duty Class 8 commercial vehicles net orders for North American markets rose to 29,200 units. This happened in March of this year, putting heavy truck orders up 159% from one year ago in March of 2010. This number marked the largest monthly order intake since May of 2006. ACT Research says that these numbers are preliminary, but are typically accurate within about five percent.
Kenny Vieth, President and Senior Analyst at ACT Research stated that "March finished off a second consecutive quarter of elevated Class 8 demand. Orders were booked in excess of a 300,000 unit annualized rate from October to March. Industry backlogs, which fell just short of 100,000 units in February, likely rose by another 8,000 to 10,000 units in March. With the uptrend firmly established, the question for 2011 is now the industry's ability to meet demand, instead of whether demand would cheap p90x (http://www.cheapp90x.org) rise to expectations. History shows that production always chases demand at the beginning of the cycle. Unlike orders, the industry needs to work in unison to raise production."
According to the ACT Research site, ACT is the worldwide leading publisher of new and used commercial vehicle (CV) industry data, market analysis and forecasting services for the North American market, as well as the US tractor-trailer market and the China cheap p90x (http://www.cheapp90x.org) CV market. ACT's CV services are used by all major North American truck and trailer manufacturers and their suppliers, as well as the banking and investment community.
ACT Research reports that truck manufacturing is producing at a rate of 300,000 units per year. However, they still predict a 75,000 truck capacity shortfall by the end of this year and an 180,000 truck deficit by the end of 2012.
Referring to the recession, Steve Tam, Vice President of the Commercial Vehicle Sector at ACT Research says that, "We can't forget about the contraction that took place. Even those who are adding capacity aren't going back to cheap p90x (http://www.cheapp90x.org) where they were."
Truck manufacturers built 154,290 Class 8 tractor-trailers in 2010, a thirty percent increase over 2009. They've seen several months of triple-digit percentage increases recently, according to insanity workout dvds (http://www.cheapp90x.org) The Journal of Commerce website.
This surge in truck orders could be seen as a positive sign for the strengthening recovery of the shipping industry, over all, including the ocean shipping, rail, air, and ocean freight sectors. ACT says, however, that some of the orders are for cheap p90x (http://www.cheapp90x.org) additional tractors, cheap insanity workout dvds (http://www.cheapp90x.org) increasing trucking capacity, but many are replacement vehicles and the order surge is the flip side of a deep drop in trucking orders during the recession.
