First of all , strikes me relating to this Syba SY-NBK68002 Silent Giant 7 inch laptop Cooling Pad, (what a mouthful!), is its huge fan. Within an electronics market full of laptop cooler pads many of which have two little fans placed at either side of their unit, Syba went another route. Taking the road less traveled has repaid. They designed their cooling pad having a fan that occupies cheap p90x (http://www.cheapp90x.org) over three quarters of the surface of the unit. A wider area of ventilation means a cooler laptop. Now, because of the size of this fan, (7 inches), you'd think that this unit makes enough noise to shake you off your workplace chair. Using the fan exposed the underside is open, so if you set it on your lap or other soft surface, the fan will press against your leg rather than spinning. You must use a hard surface, even when it just a sizable book or piece of cardboard. This isn't a cooler pad for anyone who work off your lap or on the couch etc. This is strictly a solid surface workplace. I would say this has something to do with the low price but to inform you the truth I would pay an additional ten bucks with this laptop cooler pad whether it had a specific fan. If you are not very techno minded then you don't need to worry because this is a simple plug 'n' play unit that does not require any setup software or drivers; you just need a free USB port.? There is no on/off switch, although unplugging a USB from a laptop isn't the most difficult of things you can do. Another interesting feature that the Syba SY-NBK68002 has is really a set of quite attractive blue LED lights. This can give a slight ambient lighting effect which will come in handy if you are in a dark place. The blue light can also be used as a reminder to unplug the system when you put the computer to sleep. One other thing you need to know is that this cooling stand is set at a particular height and can't be adjusted.
