? To tackle heating bills through insulation and an energy co-operative.? To introduce a London education maintenance allowance of up to £30 a week.? And to introduce support for childcare with grants of up to £700 for low-income families and interest-free loans. That YouGov poll mentioned above seemed to show Johnson pulling ahead. In a two-horse race, respondents backed Boris over Ken by 54% to 46%, an eight-point lead for the Conservative. The equivalent figures for last month were Boris 51%, Ken 49%.Post your questions for the former – and perhaps future – mayor in the comments below – and join us again here on Monday to read his replies.12.52pm: Thanks for all your questions so far. We're also asking for readers to help us keep track of candidates' activity with the London #Mayor2012 project - which aims to create to picture of what the key candidates are up to, generated by reports from across London of their campaign activity.
Mauge is chairing. First question is from a lady from Wandsworth and it's for Boris: what have you done for women since being elected. And to the entire panel: what would you do for older women?Mauge is taking two more questions before the candidates answer. Next is on equal opportunities. What will they do to challenge the stereotype of older people and improve diversity?A question on safety and being able to go in to a park without worrying (this section is supposed to be on diversity so the question doesn't fit)Finally, how they will support older people who have nowhere to go because facilities are being closed down due to cuts?2.07pm: He turns to Boris's decision to cut 1,700 police officers at a time when burglary is up.
It is an ambitious programme. But there is huge enthusiasm for this initiative in local government.I sense a great feeling that this is an issue that needs to be gripped.Cameron says one of the key issues behind the riots was whether or not people felt a connection to where they lived. Where they feel a connection, marc by marc jacobs bag, they don't "smash things up".Q: Some charities are saying there is not enough money. Councils have to put up 60% of the money. Have they got it?There is an enormous budget deficit,www.ytcgzx.net, he says. But that does not mean that you cannot do anything to improve society. The government has gone through budgets and found where money is being wasted on "responsive" interventions that are not working.
4 Cameron has contained the Eurosceptics – but Europe is going to be a big election issueBefore the conference it was thought that the Eurosceptics would use it to aggressively demand a much tougher line on Europe. But the traditional Conservative conference Euro-row didn't happen. That's partly because the economy has overshadowed everything (see 1). But it is also partly because Cameron has indicated that he would like to park this issue until the election, when the Conservatives will seek to use robust Euroscepticism as an electoral asset.5 Cameron remains his party's biggest assetThe conference slogan is: "Leadership for a Better Future". The jury is still out on the "better future", but Cameron is certainly providing leadership.
12.25pm: Labour's Brian Donohoe asks whether the uncertainty created by the SNP about the independence referendum is harming inward investment into Scotland.Cameron says he agrees with this point. As he is visiting Donohoe's constituency soon, he offers to share a platform with him attacking the SNP.12.27pm: Louise Mensch, a Conservative, marc by marc jacobs tote, accuses Corby council of not publishing certain information.Cameron agrees with her point. He says transparency in local government is important.12.28pm: Cameron says the government will consider the justice committee's recent recommendations about changing the law in relation to relatives who go missing.12.29pm: Cameron says he wants to create a benefit system where people are always better off in work.
Although it is thought the Chancellor is unlikely to introduce a high-value property tax immediately, he may set up a review to look at raising the tax burden on the rich by targeting property assets rather than income, which would be harder to avoid. Mr Osborne is likely to act on stamp duty, amid evidence that rich people reduce the 5 per cent stamp duty on the sale of homes worth £1m to only 0.5 per cent by placing their property in a company.Mr Clegg and other Liberal Democrat cabinet ministers will make their demands in behind-the-scenes talks with Mr Osborne before his Budget on 21 March. Other Liberal Democrat proposals include a tax on land values and scrapping the 40 per cent tax relief on pension contributions for higher-rate taxpayers.
