A self-styled libertarian who hates taxes and an isolationist who opposes the foreign entanglements on which those taxes are spent,ytcgzx.net, he's a recognisable American type with a young following. But after John McCain's defeat in 2008 the Republicans aren't going to pick another oldster. So Paul is just a helpful wrecker (especially if he runs as a third party independent) who will damage whoever emerges as Republican candidate. His actions make him objectively pro-Obama as the left comrades would say: a revolutionary defeatist who thinks that things must get worse in order to get better. No, it's Santorum, corporate lawyer and father of seven, whom we should concentrate on today. Is he the one who's going to get the momentum to sweep aside frontrunner Romney, dull, rich and mistrusted by the activists and take on Obama? I hope so.
We inherited a mandatory one third discount introduced by the last government and so it wasn't wrong to consult about it. Of course I understand the reasons why this idea was put forward. I'm delighted that we did consult because we listened to the consultations have come to the right decision ...As someone who worked as a criminal barrister throughout the whole of the last Labour government it is refreshing to have a government that actually listens to people who are at the front line. if the last government had done more of that we wouldn't have the crisis in our prisons that we undoubtedly inherited. From Gabrielle Browne, the victim of an attempted rape whose confrontation with Kenneth Clarke on Radio 5 Live triggered the row about the justice secretary allegedly not taking rape seriously.
But youth unemployment did not help. The problems did not begin at the general election, she says. But they did not start in May 1997 either, she says. There has been an "explosion" of gang activity, marc jacobs wallets, she says."We can turn this gang culture around and we can do it quickly."7.30pm: Stephen McCabe, the Labour MP for Birmingham Selly Oak, says he was concerned to read in the Birmingham Mail that one of the first people sentenced in the city for assaulting a police officer was only sentenced to 10 weeks.A justice system perceived as soft will only embolden those minded to attack the police, he says.7.33pm: My colleague James Meikle has a story about the government's pledge to provide financial assistance to the 100-plus families made homeless and those whose homes were damaged in the arson and looting since Saturday7.
Two out of three consumers think their home is wasting energy, but only one in three is going to do anything about it. That has to change. We need to get out there and show people what energy efficiency can really do for them. There are more details in the Department for Energy news release.11.02am: You can read all today's Guardian politics stories here. And all the politics stories filed yesterday, including some in today's paper, are here.As for the rest of the papers, I've already mentioned a couple of Times articles about health. (See 9.48am and 10.18am.) Here are some other stories and articles that are particularly interesting.? Benedict Brogan in the Daily Telegraph says Nick Clegg is hoping people won't notice how radical are his plans for Lords reform.
They want to become more famous than the other person."1.45pm: Here's a lunchtime summary.? David Cameron has said that a delay in forming a government in Greece "could be very dangerous". He issued the warning as he arrived in Mexico for the G20 summit where he will press for action to stabilise the eurozone. In a speech later today, he will say his fellow leaders must eschew caution or defeatism. This is no time for caution or defeatism. The road ahead will not be easy. But I believe that we understand the steps needed to revitalise the world economy and that together we can take the bold steps necessary. The stakes are high, of course - incredibly high. But with courage and determination we can use these G20 and B20 summits to really begin to get to grips with these five great threats to the global economy.
12.56pm: Nick Herbert is making his statement now.He says that since 1986, when the Police and Criminal Evidence Act came into force, the police and the courts have all agreed that time spend on bail should not count as time spend in custody. But a court has now said that time spent on bail does count as time spent in custody. The written judgment only became available on 17 June.Herbert says this has caused "grave concern" to the government. It will cause serious problems for the police. In some cases suspects will have to be held in custody instead of being released on bail. The police will appeal to the supreme court. But,kate spade outlet online, with 80,000 suspects on police bail, the police cannot afford to wait.
