Books have been my teachers, my friends, my escape, my recreation and my inspiration.It was nothing to fill every bookshelf in the house, and have stacks of books on every spare surface and available floor space. If I took on a new hobby or needed to learn a new skill, I had to first go and buy as many books about the subject as I could afford. I took great pride in collecting books, and a book sale - such as the ones our local library friends run on a regular basis - were a treasure trove to me. My bookshelves still hold tomes on gardening, cooking (I don't use those much), dogs, fiction and non-fiction inspiration, how-to missives, books on sailing (I love to read about people who sail solo around the world, though I'm not so sure I'd like to try it myself!) and shelves full of miscellaneous titles. When my husband and I built a large family room addition on to our tiny house, we specifically requested an entire wall-sized bookshelf. It's beautiful, and it's full. We are true book addicts. We easily could spend $100 in a swift jaunt down the center aisle of the Barnes and Noble store that, regrettably, is no longer in Prescott.You'll notice I describe many of my book experiences in the past tense. That's not because I don't still love books. I'm more of a reader than ever. But technology dragged me kicking and screaming into the future. I was such a book snob. I told everyone loudly and clearly, "I want to feel a real book in my hands!" My husband bought me one book reader that truly wasn't very user friendly, and it proved my point. Until the tablet revolution.We bought our tablets because we liked the convenience of getting on the internet, writing notes and lists, taking photos and all of the other things these little miracles do. Then, I reluctantly ordered a book or two, and the rest is history. The beauty of the tablet is that I can store an entire library of books without making my house look like a hoarder is in residence. Tablet books are more reasonably priced, easier to read in bed (my husband used to worry when I'd fall asleep and drop my latest hardbound tome on his head),
as long as you possibly can. When you feel your muscles starting to give out, and wonder of wonders, my tablet is backlit so I can read in the dark! The instant gratification part of my personality loves being able to instantly download my new books. We've since donated most of our fiction books, excepting of course my dog-eared copy of the Far Pavilions, which I consider one of the best fiction books I've ever read. I can't bear to part with all the garden, dog, sailing and inspirational books,
