In the winter and spring, it is a relatively easy seven-mile ski ascent from the Gold Mint trailhead up Archangel, Reed, and Glacier Creeks to the Snowbird Glacier and Snowbird Hut. This trip takes approximately four hours for reasonably fit skiers if a trail has already been broken. The Snowbird Hut, which MCA volunteers recently rebuilt, has some of the most spectacular views in Alaska, including a formation known as The Nunatak,

Skiers who want fresh powder on Snowbird Glacier should hike up the Reed Lakes/Glacier Creek drainage after early snows, when the snow covers the glacier but isn’t deep enough for snowmachines.
The nation’s post offices represent the largest number of sites that could be lost in towns and cities both large and small.
