After all,N.M. to Coolidge, Tucson is supposed to be a “Democratic stronghold,” and aren’t all Republicans “far right?” The latter assumption was hardly fair. But to the surprise of most, you were a moderate, cheap burberry, and moderates are a rare breed in the Grand Old Party.
Ron Daugherty was named the interim head football coach at Southside High School on Thursday. Daugherty takes over for Marty Smith, who resigned Wednesday after spending two seasons with the Panthers. The move comes just a week before the 2013 regular season is to begin and the day of Southside s jamboree game against Glencoe. I m very excited, said Daugherty, a veteran assistant coach. It s just a difficult situation with the timing of it and everything, beware. Adding upgrades will go a long way in adding value, but the kids are resilient. A lot of times we think things bother them, but it doesn t.  Daugherty said he hopes the change is just a little hiccup for a team that s expected to contend for the Class 5A, Region 7 championship this year. Perhaps the biggest adjustment will be the different terminology used on defense. Smith called the defensive plays, so Daugherty who has been the team s offensive coordinator since 2011 looked to linebackers coach Charles Nails to take over as defensive coordinator. We feel like we re a little behind because some terminology is changing, Daugherty said. We re lucky that it did happen before our jamboree game and we can get it corrected the next week before the real part of the season starts. I m very lucky (Nails) is here because he s got so much experience. He s a veteran defensive coordinator already.  One thing making this transition easier is the support of the program. The outpouring of parents and supporters of Southside and the community has been unbelievable, Daugherty said. It s a good feeling to know that people s lining up outside the door wanting to see what they can do for this program and the kids.  Daugherty is a graduate of Hokes Bluff and is in his 19th year of coaching. He came to Southside in 2011 after spending five years at Gadsden City High School as an assistant football coach. Prior to that, Daugherty was the offensive coordinator at Gadsden High School from 2001 until 2006. He s also had coaching stops at Elkmont and West Morgan high schools.
MW: It means that I’m jealous. I have a double chin and psoriasis. Shai is flawless. I look more like Kristine Nielsen, who originated the role in 2005, and who starred in a similar but less bitchy role as Sonia in Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, also written by Durang, which I heard won the Tony for best play this year.

The top-5 remains unchanged after each of those teams won. Williams Field is still undefeated but drops a spot to No. 7 after needing a late comeback to defeat unranked Poston Butte. Thunderbird moves up to No. 6 with a win over Sunnyslope, while Liberty holds steady at No. 8. Paradise Valley and Sunrise Mountain switch spots as the Trojans defeated Cactus Shadows while Sunrise Mountain lost to Cactus.
