President to lobby for duty-free access into USApril 7, 2010(Philippines)As the government decides to increase lobbying efforts for a US initiative, supporting Philippine-made garment exports, Philippine’s President, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, is planning to visit Washington to meet US lawmakers.According to Trade Secretary, Jesli A Lapus, the President will meet lawmakers in Washington, when on a trip to the US capital, on April 12-13, to attend the Global Nuclear Security Summit. An industry official informed that this visit might rope in more support for the bill, which is pending in the US congress.Referring to the suggested measures that will grant duty-free entry to Philippine garments using American textiles, Lapus indicated an interest in the above-mentioned President’s visit.
