Their metabolic rates were also monitored to give a more accurate reading. The results showed that drinking warmer beverages while exercising decreased the body’s stored heat. The authors of the study say this is probably due to the fact that the subjects’ bodies responded to the added heat of the warm water by producing a disproportionate amount of sweat, more effectively cooling them.
