Lung cancer in nonsmokers more common in women
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the U.S., and research in the patterns of lung cancer in those who have never smoked is "an important public health priority," Dr. Heather A. Wakelee, from Stanford University School of Medicine in California, and colleagues emphasize in their report in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.Smoking remains the main cause of lung cancer, the investigators note. As such, few studies have looked at the occurrence of this malignancy among nonsmokers.Wakelee's team assessed the epidemiology of nonsmokers with lung cancer.
