A college Park woman will spend 10 years and one month in prison after being convicted of depositing more than 100 stimulus checks and income tax refunds payable to others. The US Attorney's Office says Cynthia Anne Elliot has been ordered to pay nearly over three Quarters of a million dollars in restitution.
She pled guilty to bank fraud and filing false claims with the Internal Revenue Service. Authorities say she got the checks by theft and filing the false claims. People in the College Park area say they would have never suspect that Cynthia Elliot would do such a thing. One person said this economy will make even the most unsuspecting person break the law, or think about breaking the law.
