Recently, I read a "How To" article on quilting and loved it. I began thinking of the different colored thread I could use, and maybe even a custom emblem or custom label. As I searched on US manufacturers of custom patch websites for ideas, I came up with the brilliant idea of using patch work combined with quilting to create a most eccentric quilt for my little girls, who love Disney characters. As I searched through their massive inventory of clothing labels, clothing tags, emblems, and custom labels I came across
P90X: Tony Horton's 90-Day Extreme Home Fitness Workout DVD Program their patches and my excitement welled up as I quickly began to order mostly Disney characters, and even some patches with really great inspirational messages.
Thus I began my patch work quilt journey. Sewing the quilt was definitely a little more difficult than anticipated. First I had to make sure that I picked the appropriate colored thread that would accent the most important part of the quilt, which was my beautiful patches. Then I had to figure out exactly how I would lay out the patches once the quilt was completed. I also came up with the idea to sew my own custom emblem, kind of like a clothing tag but my own custom label, on my quilt; in my own mind I dreamed of having my own patch work quilt line, like a clothing line, only I would be known for my patch work quilt design instead of clothing design. I would also have to pay much attention to size as I wanted to make sure to leave plenty of room for all of the patches that I had in store for this monster project. The best part of sewing my patch work quilt was that I didn't have to worry about gawkiness; it did not matter how many bright colors or unique patches were sewn together because on a quilt, everything just seems to come together perfectly, and the more colors and figures used the

The patch work quilt adventure was one with

P90X2 the way. It took about three or four sewing attempts before I was finally able to get the knack of quilting. Once the quilt was completed, several months later, I then began to sew all of the Disney patches in each colorful square, which was my favorite part of the whole project. I loved sewing each little Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto, Goofy, and of course Minnie Mouse, but my favorite patches were the inspirational sayings. I loved reminding my girls of their favorite bible verses, that I had specially made by the US manufacturers of custom patches. I was able to sew in bible versus from the book of Psalms and I was able to sew in custom labels that said, "peace," "love," "hope," and "faith" throughout the colorful quilt.
Creating this custom emblem of love for my girls was time consuming and at times frustrating but seeing their faces when it was finished made all of it so worth it. My patch work quilt with my custom label embroidered on it will now forever be a part of my children's lives and will be a family heirloom. My next project, a patch work quilt for mommy adorned with custom patches that say, "peace," and "tranquility."
