"The 21st century's revolutions and wars demonstrate the lack of legitimacy even beyond the Middle East. Conflicts explode,or simmer, but do not go away. Most will grow worse. And as states continue to fracture or fail they become havens of chaos for the monsters of jihad.Last year Mali split in two. The legendary city of Timbuktu is now being ruled by radical jihadists. Gen. Carter Ham,the head of the U.S. Africa Command, warned in December that: "As each day goes by,al Qaeda and other organizations are strengthening their hold in northern Mali." Despite talk of an African-led international intervention,it's more likely that other rebel factions, with foreign backing, will try to take back the vast desert territory they call Azawad.

Harman obviously can't wait to get stuck in. She has just put out this statement. The Liberal Democrats claim they are equal partners but you only need to look at who David Cameron has taken on his visit to America. While David Cameron,

And havingindividual Republicanstoss out ideas is not the same as a detailed public counter-proposal.Republicans also say tax reform can raise enough money so we can avoid rate increases on the wealthy. Fine. Let them put forward a comprehensive plan so we can judge it. Their problem is that tax reform can't produce the revenue that's needed, but let's at least see what they have in mind.I'd like to see Obama and the Democrats press this point and do their best to make sure that this is the week's main question. They don't really get to call Obama's proposal unserious and all those things when they haven't even really put out one of their own. But they won't do it because they want Obama to own the cuts, especially the entitlement cuts.
Diskin,in particular,is getting it in the neck, with the Prime Minister's office attempting to write him off as professionally frustrated,
cnnhkids.com,while "a senior minister who has a close relationship with Netanyahu" lumped him in with his predecessors in what, for Israel,is a truly shocking turn of phrase: Diskin, the senior minister said,"perpetuates a grand legacy of moronic Shin Bet chiefs." Take that, people we have entrusted with our security for decades! On the one hand, there's not allowing the military and the unelected stage to a coup; on the other, there's not paying them any heed. These are people who are now,or who have recently been,on the front lines, literal and metaphorical, and Israel's government is doing the equivalent of stuffing its fingers in its collective ears and yelling "LA LA LA" very loudly.

Romney gained six favorability points among both women and seniors. He actually gained 10 among young people, but he's still getting slaughtered there. 5. He also gained 11,and Obama lost eight, among "some college." Broadly, that category usually means middle-income people,in sales and so on. Another indicator that Romney managed to sell himself as moderate and Obama failed to rebut. So there you have it. Now. A 12-point swing in a month? I don't know. That's pretty radical. I see that yesterday's Gallup rolling tracking poll still had Obama up five. The Rand daily survey had Obama up about 3.5. Other pollsters say that they saw big Romney numbers Thursday and Friday, but things leveled off by the weekend.
Take the debate over the role of government. There is a perfectly sensible case for reshaping and reinventing government today to make it more effective; to take it out of areas of delivery and execution better done by others; to reduce its cost; to make it an agent of strategic change rather than the type of heavy hierarchical structure of the 'one size fits all' state of the past. There are a thousand efficiencies anyone used to dealing with private sector reorganisation could make in any government department or service you care to mention.Putting this argument in terms of some piece of zealotry that assumes the very notion of government is at best a necessary evil, distracts from the core reason for reform: making government work better for people.

Rather, the question is,will sanctions add enough pressure to compel Iran to make a face-saving deal in which enrichment is reined in,closely monitored, and controlled? On this, the jury is still out.Michael Adler is currently a scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center.
