Like most phased retirement programs, Stanley approves participants case by case. Those who take part before officially resigning must work at least 20 hours to maintain their health benefits. Once they've officially retired, workers can cash in shares through the company profit-sharing plan and make 401(k) withdrawals, even if they continue to work part time.
After the last panelist spoke, the moderator asked for comments or questions from the audience and I asked the same exact question I had asked at Leadership Birmingham many years earlier.
Like half of Anchorage, Julie was hired as an extra when they shot the movie about rapist/killer Robert Hansen here. And, like everyone else, she's been waiting to see if her performance survived the editing process. She plays a reporter at a press conference.
Me? If I waited all night outside an electronics store I wouldn’t know what to look for when I got inside. Touch screens, BlackBerrys and iPhones are for other people. I couldn’t tell you the difference between an iPod or an iPad. I don’t crave a nano,51 remaining., the “thinnest iPod ever made - the width of a credit card,Oct. 18 with Abigail Rose at 6 p.m.,” according to the advertising. It even has a “built in pedometer to track workouts.” I do workouts, but I don’t want to track them. I might not like what I learn!
Lane, executive chef at Chinooks Bar and Grill in Seward, earned his slot in New Orleans by winning the Great Alaska Seafood Cook Off in May. His prize-worthy dish: a sourdough crusted sable fish (black cod), served with potatoes roasted in duck fat, sauteed seabeans,or major difficulty sustaining a conversation.,woolrich parka, shitake mushrooms and red onions and a smoked salmon and veal jus.
On an intellectual level I get that camping helps some people feel at one with nature, removed from the rat race of modern life. No cell phone reception, no 24-hour news cycle, no microwavable dinners in plastic trays. That’s neat. But does it achieve the same thing if you have to reserve your campsite in January just to pitch the tent in July? The roads are clogged with over-stuffed sedans and campers that wouldn’t know a fast lane if it bit them in the face. Plus, the bugs, oh man, the bugs.
