painting dresser for babies nursery
That's what we're doing currently. I found a dresser for $20 that we're turning into a changing table. Yesterday my husband started to strip it because it had so many coats of gloss/finish that it looked thick and ugly. He painted the stripping stuff on around 12 and after a few coats and the stripping, he was done around 8 last night. (The stuff needs to sit on for awhile each time) The stuff smells terrible and strong so I wouldn't advise that for a pregnant lady. Primer goes next and then we got a cute Rust o leum spray paint that supposedly is good. It says it does two coats in one. We're doing a grape color which I'm excited for. I know Etsy has really cute knobs and so does Target actually if you didn't want to order online, true religion outlet online. I think I may order some clear "crystal" knobs
Good luck!
If it's painted wood, with only a layer or two of old paint, sand it down and paint it with acrylic latex paint. (Behr/Valspar) The paint and primer in one works great.
If it's caked with lots of layers of paint like crystalrosee's, then you would have to have your DH strip it for you, preferably outside so you don't have to smell the fumes. You can also use the paint and primer in one for this.
They have mini foam rollers with plastic paint trays at the hardware stores for like, $3. Paint brush for the crevices, and roller for the flat surfaces.
DH and I just redid the dresser and chest of drawers that my sister and I used when we were little. They're press board with a laminate on the outside. We got special primer at Home Depot. It's called gripper primer, and we painted 2 coats of it before we painted the furniture with normal wall paint. They turned out really nice! We got the knobs from Home Depot, too. There's a picture of the changing table/dresser on my profile but it's upside down and I don't know why.
